The base for founding the Värska Resort was set in 1971, when, by government decree, the surroundings of Värska were acknowledged as a health resort with local importance. In 1972 the foundation meeting of the Värska Resort took place where the decision was adopted to create the “Värska” resort for the agricultural workers in the collective farms of that region. Simultaneously the articles of constitution were confirmed, the board was elected and the first shareholders were accepted.
At the same time it was decided also to announce a contest for the preliminary design of the resort. Architects Vilen Künnapu, Ülevi Eljand and the engineer Henn Karits become the authors of the Värska Resort project.
As the starting date of building, the 6th of October, 1976 will be considered to be the historical date.
The first ones being treated were welcomed on May the 3rd of 1980.
